PACC Interim Co-chair, Leora Gesser of Grand Forks, participated in a focus group in an Interior Health patient engagement opportunity to improve medical imaging.  Leora was the only rural participant and shares the following regarding areas of key input from the session.

One of the three priority issues that arose from the focus group was rural access to medical imaging, raising awareness of mountain passes and severe weather as barriers to access. Another key issue was communication, including the timeline of appointments and receiving results, patients being able to understand their scans, and having the chance to ask questions and receive answers. Also, to improve patient-centered care, trust needs to be built with Indigenous patients.  These conversations are now helping to guide improvements.
